These days, education becomes an important aspect in our life. This is due to the rapid development of the world, which cause human lifestyle to be more and more competitive, especially in job-seeking. Higher education will increase the chance of getting accepted in your dream job. However, in many parts of the world, especially in developing countries, education is still considered a luxury. There are a lot of government and non-government organizations and companies that actively contribute to solve this issue by providing financial supports in forms of scholarships, bursaries, and fellowships. If you are interested in education field or wanting to become a teacher, ISASA bursaries can be the perfect solution for you. The Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa or ISASA is the oldest and biggest private (independent) schools association within the region of Southern Africa. The organization draws its origins to Conference of Headmasters and Headmistresses that was initially establishes in 1929.
There are over 760 schools that become the members of ISASA. Those schools are located in Zambia, Mozambique, Mosotho, Angola, Namibia, Swaziland, Botswana, and South Africa. More than 168 learners are attending schools affiliated with ISASA. This voluntary and non-profit associations where schools choose to apply for the membership. There is a yearly subscription fee for every member school, In return, the organization offers the members with various services, such as professional development, best practice of school, advocacy, and finance, and many more. ISASA is not private schools’ governing body and does not manage to own any individual schools. The vision of this organization is to make sure all learners are able to enjoy quality education, to make sure the contribution of independent education’s value to the previous goal is recognized, and to make sure high quality, value-based, and public-spirited independent schools are developed.
So, why ISASA schools are better choice? It is because not every school can join the membership due to its rigorous conditions. These rigorous conditions are applied to make sure only schools with high ethical and educational practice can join the organization. The conditions include commitment to ethical practice code and on-site inspections. There are four characteristic of ISASA member school. First is affordability, which means the fee levels of ISASA schools range widely to make sure every family can afford education for their children. Second is diversity, which means there are various types of schools that become members of ISASA, such as alternative, traditional, secular, and religious schools. Third is values, which means the member schools of ISASA possess a sound values base, offering strong discipline in a designed learning environment, where students learn the significance of shared norms, hard work, and personal responsibilities. The last is quality, every member school of ISASA service high-quality education regardless of its type and fee-level.
The bursaries provided by ISASA are eligible for school leavers with B pass matric exemption and 60 percent or more in Science or Math and English, prospective students with B pass matric exemption and 60 percent or more in Science or Math and English, tertiary students with Science or Math and English credits, and graduates with English, Science, or Math majors. The bursary will completely covers UNISA textbooks and fees. The bursars will also be mentored and learn from experienced teachers from private school.
